CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- Freshman goalkeeper Hannah Daly of Stateline is going to the NCAA Division I women's soccer tournament quarterfinals.
Senior forward Casey Nogueira scored her ninth goal of the season in the 82nd minute, and North Carolina's defense posted its eighth straight shutout as the third-ranked Tar Heels' women's soccer team defeated 19th-ranked Maryland 1-0 in the NCAA third round on Saturday.
Daly, a second-string keeper for the Tar Heels, didn't see any action against the Terps but played earlier in the tournament.
North Carolina became the seventh No. 1 or No. 2 seed to advance to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament. The Tar Heels will play host to Wake Forest, the No. 3 seed in the upper right quadrant of the bracket, in the NCAA quarterfinals on Friday in Chapel Hill.
The other quarterfinal games will feature No. 2 seed Boston College at No. 1 seed Stanford in the upper left quadrant, No. 2 seed Portland at No. 1 seed UCLA in the lower left quadrant and No. 2 seed Notre Dame at No. 1 seed Florida State in the lower right quadrant.
