Airport has a long history in Reno

The original Reno airport was built in 1929 by Boeing Air Transport. The airport was sold to United Airlines in 1936, and the field was operated continuously by United until it was purchased by the City of Reno in 1953. The terminal building was completed in 1960 in time to serve air travellers headed to the Squaw Valley Winter Olympics. The Cannon Terminal (named after State Senator Howard Cannon) was completed in 1994.
Reno/Tahoe International has grown rapidly in the last decade

In the last 10 years, the Reno/Tahoe International Airport has undergone phenomenal growth, increasing passenger traffic by 120%. Over 6.1 million passengers travelled through the airport in 1999. That same year, over 103 million pounds of air cargo was shipped through Reno/Tahoe International's cargo terminal, a 7% increase over the previous year.
Easy access, panoramic views

Reno/Tahoe International Airport is located less than 10 minutes from downtown Reno and is adjacent to US Highway 395 for easy access to the Sierra Mountains and Lake Tahoe. Passengers flying into Reno are treated to panoramic views of the Truckee Meadows and the downtown casinos, and often get a bird's eye view of beautiful Lake Tahoe.

These departures include 17 non-stop destinations including Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Fresno, Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Phoenix, Salt Lake City, San Francisco and Seattle. Self-sufficient facility

The Reno/Tahoe International Airport is a totally self-sufficient facility. No taxpayer money is involved in running the airport. The airport is supported by fees and rentals collected from airport tenants and is governed by a Board of Trustees appointed by the City Councils of Reno and Sparks, and the Washoe County Commission.
