Lake Tahoe Community College music instructor Mark Williams will sing duets with some of the area’s best divas to raise money for a concert grand piano for the college’s music department.
“It Takes Two: A Broadway Valentine” will be presented at 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6 in the Duke Theater. Tickets will be a $20 donation.
“In trying to think of an idea for a fundraiser, I thought it might be fun to do an evening of duets with lots of my female friends with whom I have performed over the years,” Williams said. “I contacted 16 ladies from South Lake Tahoe, Gardnerville, Minden, Carson City, Reno and Incline Village, the majority of whom have been my leading ladies in a show or have performed leading roles in shows for which I have done the musical direction.”
Making her South Shore performance debut will be LTCC’s Theater Director Susan Boulanger, who recently directed the college’s production of “The Importance of Being Earnest.” Accompanying on the piano will be Salli Parker and Moe Leonard of South Lake Tahoe and Cindy Sabatini of Reno.
“In this time of budget cuts, I think doing the benefit concert above and beyond his normal duties really speaks to Mark’s commitment to getting the piano for his department,” Boulanger said. “He’s very passionate about it, and I am so happy to be able to help to make it happen by being involved in this event.”
Some of the musical numbers on the program include Broadway hits like, “It Takes Two” from Into the Woods and “Tonight” from West Side Story.
