Action snowsport photography and video from around the world highlight the 14th annual In the Mood benefit for the Tahoe Forest Cancer Center.
Admission to the all-ages event is free. Attendees are encouraged to bring donations of canned food for the Tahoe Community Christmas. In the Mood will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, at the Resort at Squaw Creek in Squaw Valley.
“It’s seldom, if ever, to see this type of talent under one roof,” ski photographer Hank deVré said in a press release. “Their images are today’s forefront of snowsport photography.”
The evening program showcases the talents of the biggest names in adventure photography and video including filmmakers Mike Marvin, Scott Gaffney, Craig Beck, Tom Day, Mike and Dave Hatchett and Brad Holmes. Nationally recognized photographers include Tom Lippert, Keoki Flagg, Niobe Burden, Court Leve and Hank deVré.
“After all these years the event has grown from a cozy crowd to attracting over 600 people,” said Robert Frohlich, president of Snowtribe Productions, a cancer patient and co-organizer with deVré for the charitable evening. “It’s a fun party, a celebration of the coming of winter, and a great way to give back to the community.”
A raffle with more than 150 prizes is part of the night’s festivities. Grand prizes are a Squaw Valley USA adult season pass and Chugach Range heli-skiing at Points North in Cordova, Alaska. Other prizes include local resort day tickets, Pacific Crest Snowcat adventure, snow sport equipment, overnight lodging packages, gift certificates and hard and soft good outdoor gear.
A highlight of the event includes a tribute to the Squaw Valley resident and legendary adventurer Shane McConkey, who was killed this year base jumping in Europe. Evening co-hosts are Resorts Sports Network’s Todd Offenbacher and Tahoe TV’s Eric T. Brandt. The Resort at Squaw Creek also hosts an after-party in Sandy’s Pub beginning at 9 p.m. Discount lodging is available the night of the event. www.squaw.com/book-early-and-save. Raffle tickets may be purchased at the door before and throughout the event. Raffle tickets may also be purchased beforehand at the Cancer Center, Wolfdale’s, Mamasake and all Tahoe Dave’s locations. All proceeds benefit the Tahoe Forest Cancer Center.
Led by Medical Director Laurence Heifetz, MD, the Tahoe Forest Cancer Center, located in Truckee California, is committed to providing the highest quality cancer treatment and care to patients. The center strives to offer the most appropriate and current cancer diagnostic and therapeutic modalities in an honest, supportive, respectful and compassionate manner. The Center is associated with the UC Davis Health System and the Tahoe Forest Hospital Foundation charitable organization.
