Due to a high demand from friends and fans of Norton Buffalo, there will be an additional memorial benefit concert Nov. 23 in Paradise, Calif.
Buffalo, a singer-harmonica player who appears on 180 albums, died of lung cancer Oct. 30.
The new show will have performances by Maria Muldaur, David and Linda LaFlamme, Barry “the Fish” Melton’s band and the surviving members of Buffalo’s group the Knockouts — David Brown, Austin De Lone and Johnny “V” Vernazza.
A Nov. 22 benefit quickly sold out. It will have performances by the Knockouts, Roy Rogers and the Delta Rhythm Kings, Tom Rigney and Flambeau and the Carlos Reyes Band.
Proceeds to the first show benefit Buffalo’s wife, Lisa. The second show will fund the site of both events, Paradise Performing Arts Center, which went broke in June.
“Norton still going to help save the Paradise Performing Arts Center,” said friend Bill Anderson. “Even though he’s not here, he’s still going to help us do it.”
Buffalo moved to Paradise four years ago.
“He and Lisa came right here and immediately starting doing benefits for community,” Anderson said. “They raised tens of thousands of dollars.”
Anderson said the 762-capacity Paradise Performing Arts Center is “acoustically perfect and there’s not a bad seat in the house.”
For tickets to the Nov. 23 benefit, call Anderson at (877) 397-3363.
Buffalo was a full-time member of the Steve Miller Band. A coveted harp player, he collaborated with hundreds of musicans.
The LaFlammes are best known for their 1969 song “White Bird” by their band It’s a Beautiful Day. Melton is the “Fish” from Country Joe and the Fish. Muldar’s biggest hit was “Midnight at the Oasis.”
Buffalo’s life also will be celebrated Jan. 23 at the Fox Theater in Oakland in a benefit concert starring the Steve Miller Band and the Doobie Brothers, with special guests Huey Lewis, George Thorogood, Charlie Musselwhite and Bonnie Raitt. Tickets will be available Sunday, Nov. 15 on at Ticketmaster.
There also be a celebration Nov. 29 in Sonoma at the Veterans Hall. For information, call (707) 565-2041.
