K-TAHOE goes stereo on 96.1 FM

The cars are moving in stereo.
South Lake Tahoe radio station KTHO has added an FM frequency. Local news and classic rock music hit the air in stereo on Oct. 24. It can be heard on 96.1 FM. It also is broadcast on 590 AM and streamed online on www.kthoradio.com.
The 46-year-old station was purchased in March by Darrell Wampler, known in Southern California as KROQ’s Insane Darrell Wayne. The station is operated by Bill Kingman, Ed Crook and General Manager Paul Middlebrook, the former Tahoe Daily Tribune publisher.
“K-TAHOE has made a commitment to the Lake Tahoe community to bring it the news and information which will best serve its local population, businesses and the large Lake Tahoe tourist base,” Middlebrook said in a release. “Our combination of classic rock and our local news talk hits a very large demographic. Where many stations feel that it’s all about the music, we feel that it’s all about our local community.”
In addition to news talk and classic rock, KTHO offers an earful of syndicated music programs and the studio-generated Buzz Blues Show with Tom Conley 3-5 p.m. Sundays and 10 p.m.-midnight Wednesdays.
KTHO broadcast a continuous ABC feed for three years before it was purchased in the spring.
