Toccata is bringing the mountain to Tahoe.
“Mountain of Mendelssohn” will be performed three times by Toccata — The Orchestra and Community Choral Artists of the Tahoe Area.
The Big Blue Summer MusicFest 2009 concerts feature international violin soloist Elizabeth Pitcairn playing the famous “Red Violin.”
The first performance will be at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Patrick's Church in Incline Village.
The concert will be repeated at 7:30 p.m. Monday, July 27, at St. Theresa Catholic Church in South Lake Tahoe.
Reno's Trinity Episcopal Church will be the site of the final show at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 28.
Pitcairn will perform Mendelssohn's concerto for violin in E minor on the Stradivarius violin that inspired the movie, “The Red Violin.”
The Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and TOCCATA Chorus celebrates the 200th anniversary of Felix Mendelssohn's birthday with selections from “Part II” of the composer's most famous symphonic choral work, “Elijah,” with Stuart Duke, baritone, as Elijah. Other vocal soloists include Joy Strotz and Anna Helwing, soprano; Maryanne Ashley and Susan Sonnemaker, mezzo-soprano; and Daniel Paulson, tenor. For organ music lovers, Maureen Leonard performs an opening prelude from Mendelssohn's organ oeuvre.
Maestro James Rawie will conduct all performances.
Tickets at the door are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors (62 and up), $5 for students with a valid student ID, and children under 12 enter free with a paying adult. Preferred seating is $35 and can be obtained by calling (775) 313-9697. Tickets also are available through www.activitytickets.com.
These concerts are supported by the Carol F Buck Foundation, the Kling Family Foundation and Thorny Point Foundation. For more concert information, call (775) 313-9697 or visit www.ToccataTahoe.com.
