Bob Newhart calls Tahoe
By Lake Tahoe Action |

Bob Newhart is coming to Tahoe, and he bringing a band along with his stories.
Even if they’ve never attended one of his live shows, spectators probably feel as if they know Newhart, who starred in three successful television sit-coms from 1972 to 1998.
Newhart performs at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 6 inside Harrah’s Lake Tahoe South Shore Room, which is celebrating its 50th year. He performed in that room in the 1960s, when entertainers would play extended engagements, two shows a night.
Born Sept. 5, 1929, he hit the national stage in the early 1960s when he performed on “The Bob Newhart Variety Show.” Newhart is more of a storyteller with a dry, stuttering delivery than a standup comic.
Newhart recorded several comedy albums, including “The Button Down Mind of Bob Newhart.” In 2006 the album was added to the Library of Congress.
From 1972-78 he starred on “The Bob Newhart” show, portraying Bob Hartley, a Chicago psychologist living in a high-rise apartment with his wife, Emily, played by Suzanne Pleshette.
He played a rural innkeeper from 1982-90 in “Newhart.” He also played in 1992’s “Bob,” in which he portrayed Bob McKay, the creator of the righteous comic-book superhero “Mad Dog.”
Newhart also was a cast member on the late-90s program “George & Leo” with Judd Hirsh and Jason Bateman. He’s also appeared in at least 15 movies.
