An electric guitar will strike a chord of a lifetime Sunday at the Hard Rock Café Lake Tahoe.
The winner among 20 finalists will win a trip for two to the three-day Hard Rock Calling 2009 festival in June at London’s Hyde Park. Musical artists include Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Neil Young, The Killers, Dave Matthews Band, Ben Harper and Relentless 7, Fleet Foxes and the Gaslight Anthem.
The Hard Rock Café lists the total prize value at $5,000, but it could be more valuable considering Springsteen is on the bill.
“The day Hard Rock put the tickets for Bruce Springsteen up for sale, they sold out,” said Natalie Yanish, the restaurant’s sales and marketing manager. “I’m jealous that I can’t go. The lineup for London is awesome.”
The trip giveaway event is from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 17, inside the restaurant at Harveys Resort and Casino. Fifteen of the finalists will be selected by listeners of the radio station K-NEV FM Magic 95.5. Five more will be picked by raffle in the restaurant sometime after 3:30 p.m.
After the 20 finalists are determined, each will enter the Plug In and Win contest. Groups of five will go onstage to try the guitars, one of which will be plugged into a working amplifier. There will be one winner per round.
“I’ve been telling everyone I know they should come down to the café on Sunday to try to win the trip,” Yanish said. “The qualifiers’ odds are really good, one out of 20 will win a $5,000 trip. We used to just pick a name out of a hat, but this year we wanted to do something more exciting. It will be fun to see who’s guitar is plugged in, and whose isn’t during the Plug In and Win giveaway.”
Contestants do not need to make a purchase at the café nor bring a passport.
“We have a company that helps the winners to acquire passports if needed and assist with the travel plans,” Yanish said.
London’s third annual Hard Rock Calling festival is June 26-28.
Live music will be performed Sunday by Brian Collins and Kyle Kirchubel.
“Even if you don’t get qualified, there will still be live music and great tunes before the giveaway starts,” Yanish said.
Hard Rock Calling opens the fourth Ambassadors of Rock tour, which will bring together Hard Rock Cafés, live venues, hotels and casinos around the globe. Additional artists will be announced later with events scheduled for Dubai; Singapore; Tokyo; New York; Orlando; Las Vegas; Hollywood, Fla.; Biloxi, Miss.; and Buenos Aires.
