What's new at SnowFest! 2009

After 28 years, SnowFest! is still getting bigger and better than ever. Mark you calendars for Feb. 27 - March 8 when the North Tahoe-Truckee area comes alive with nonstop activities and wild and zany events. Here’s a look at some of the new events on the agenda for this year’s festivities. Feb. 27-28
Sugar Bowl presents the SF Indie Film Festival
The world-renowned film festival heads for higher ground. Catch "yet to be released" studio films and off-the-radar independent gems after a day on the slopes. Films show at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. in the Mt. Judah Lodge’s Coldstream Room at Sugar Bowl Ski Resort. Details: www.sfindie.com and/or www.sugarbowl.com.
Fat Cat Drawing Contest
This one’s for the kids! Contestants pick up entry forms and draw and color their best "Fat Cat" in age categories. Prizes awarded to the best Fat Cats. Must draw your very own "Fat Cat", and return to the Café for judging no later than 5 p.m. Saturday. Winners will be announced prior to the "Cat Fight" on Sunday, 2 p.m. Open to ages 4-12. Pick up entry forms at Fat Cat Cafe, 599 N. Lake Blvd in Tahoe City.
Lakeside Pizza’s DJ Street Dance Party"
Come enjoy the great sights and sounds of the “Space Cowboys & the Unimog” Live Space Cowboys, & RIPE allstars DJ dance show outside of Lakeside Pizza until 10 p.m., then the party and DJs move on inside for 21 and over, for late night DJ party with ice blocking breakbeat and heartwarming house music. Tahoe City PUD presents the Snowball Softball Tournament
It's time to test out your Softball skills in the snow! Bring your mitt and have fun…Tahoe style. The first six teams to sign up through the TCPUD will compete in a one-day, single-elimination tournament at Conners Field. Proceeds will benefit the Kidz Club/Teen Center at Ridout Community Center. Sign ups at (530) 583-3440 x 10. From noon to 6 p.m. $70 team registration fee.
A Fat Cat Cat Fight
Come join in the fun at one of the most hilarious, craziest events of the year. Wear your cutest, funniest, or sexiest cat costume and “scratch” your opponent with padded pummel sticks! Prizes will also be awarded for costumes, including a $100 gift certificate to the Fat Cat Cafe! Space is limited so sign up at the Fat Cat Café soon! Proceeds benefit The Humane Society.

The Tourist Club presents The Fastest Bartender Contest"
Come join in the fun as this event comes back this year, and in Truckee. See if you can outpour your fellow bartenders at this competition, and show off your mixology skills!

Fat Cat Cafe’s Cat’s Meow Martini Party'
Get your Martini on with great drink specials and amazing appetizers! Cocktail attire requested! This will be one of those great nights to actually dress up in Tahoe, so get your outfits now! Geo-Snow Quest Adventure
Hosted by the Sierra Watershed Education Partnerships (SWEP). Learn how to use GPS, Maps and avalanche beacons in this snowbound adventure quest. Participants of all ages search on skis for clue caches hidden around the trails of the Tahoe Cross Country Center.
