• DJ One.Truest. Head over to Moody’s, located at 10007 Bridge St. in Truckee, to move your dancing feet to an irie rootsy, reggae beat. Starting at 9 p.m. the crowd starts filling in as DJ One.Truest sets up the tables and elevates the mood with a mix of reggae dancehall music.
• Lake Tahoe Adventure Slideshow Series. Join Bean Bowers for a presentation on alpine climbing from the world’s most spectacular places. From Alaska to the Patagonia enjoy Bean’s down-to-earth storytelling. Free show starts at 7 p.m. at Bar One at Squaw Valley USA.

• Alpenglow Sports Winter Film Series. Bean Bowers presents “The Heart of Ski Mountaineering” at 7 p.m. in the Sawtooth Ridge Cafe, located at 877 N. Lake Blvd. in Tahoe City. From the northern Alaskan Ranges to the Ice caps of Patagonia and the cold powder of Montana, Bean Bowers captures the beauty, and adventure of skiing. Alpenglow Sports (530) 583-6917. Free.
• Future of our Forests. Join Sugar Pine Foundation founder John Pickeet and Executive Director Maria Mircheva for a discussion on global warming, invasive species and other human influences effecting Sierra Nevada forests. Oregon Shadow Theatre presents an exquisite, colorful and intricate performance with shadow puppets combined with live music, voices, and sound effects creating lively good humor and delightful entertainment. C’meon, when was the last time you went to a puppet show? The award-winning play has toured across the country and beyond, with stops at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., The Puppeteers of America National Puppet Festivals and more. Friday, Jan. 23 the show makes a stop in at the Truckee High School Theater, 11725 Donner Pass Rd. in Truckee. Advance tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for students. • Baxter’s hosts Terrence Brewer Quintet. Terrence Brewer, winner of the 2007 San Francisco Weekly Music Award for Best Jazz Artist, brings his talent to two free shows at the new Baxter’s Bistro and Lounge in The Village at Northstar on Friday, Jan. 23 and Saturday, Jan. 24 at 8 p.m.
• Diamond Peak presents Stallar Jiblet. Intermediate/advanced skiers and snowboarders can hit a special surprise feature built under the Lodgepole lift in a jam-style format for two days. Winners of the Open Division get a winner-take-all cash prize based on number of entries. The price is $10 or $5 if you wear a costume (per day). The Parasol Tahoe Community Foundation AmeriCorps Program will host Celebrating Diversity Around the World event for 3rd through 5th graders from 1-5 p.m. The event will include several fun and informative activities, which promote understanding and awareness of other cultures around the world. There will be several activities where the participants will be introduced to multi-cultural food, music, clothing, games, traditions, languages, and have the opportunity to meet people from around the world. The event will be held in the Trepp Meeting Room of the DW Reynolds Community Center at 948 Incline Way, Incline Village.
