Happy "June-uary"!
It's been so warm and sunny in the Lake Tahoe area these past few weeks that the locals have started referring to it as June-uary. But don't fear fellow powderhounds, because the high pressure system that's been keeping the storms at bay is moving out, and hopefully the snow is moving in.
So start planning that next trip to Tahoe, because there's plenty to see and do in the Basin this month.
Eat well at new restaurants opened by familiar names
North Lake Tahoe has seen two new restaurants open in the last month, with some familiar faces in the kitchen. In the Village at Squaw Valley, Chef Billy McCullough of Dragonfly and restauranteur Ray Villaman have opened Twenty-Two Bistro & Bar in the old Balboa Cafe space at the base of the mountain.
And over in the Village at Northstar, Mark Estee and JJ Morgan -- the team that brought Moody's Bistro to Truckee -- have opened Baxter's Bistro & Lounge to bring a new twist to fine dining at the base of that mountain.
Read all about each new spot and check out why the resort villages in North Lake Tahoe are worth a visit the next time you're in Tahoe.
Plan your ski day
Check out our guide to Lake Tahoe's alpine ski resorts and the many options for cross country skiing the area affords too. And don't feel like you have to pay full price for those lift tickets as there are plenty of deals out there to be had. Need more convincing? Slopes getting icy? Go explore the region with snowshoes
Looking to get outside this winter without the hustle and bustle of busy resorts? Snowshoeing is the perfect outdoor activity for a breath of fresh air. Try one of these trails recommended by Alexis Ollar, director of trails for the Tahoe Rim Trail Association.
