Popular Lake Tahoe boat ramps remain open during winter

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE — Two public boat ramps at Lake Tahoe will remain open through the winter — including Christmas and New Year’s Day.
The Cave Rock and Lake Forest ramps will remain open from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily through the winter, weather and lake conditions permitting, according to a statement from the Tahoe Resource Conservation District and the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency.
In the event of a winter storm, the launch facilities might close. The facilities will reopen as soon as possible after significant storm activity has ended, according to the statement.
Other facilities with winter hours are Tahoe Keys Marina in South Lake Tahoe, Obexer’s Marina near Homewood, Sierra Boat Co. in Carnelian Bay, and Ski Beach in Incline Village. Boaters should contact the facilities directly for hours of operation.
Vessels at high risk of carrying aquatic invaders, such as the quagga or zebra mussel, must be decontaminated before launching. Personal watercraft should be cleaned, drained, and dried thoroughly before launching at Lake Tahoe, according to the statement.
For up-to-date information on ramp closures, call the Tahoe Aquatic Nuisance Species hot line at (888) 8246-267. The toll-free number is available during daylight hours seven days a week. To learn more about the aquatic invasive species and the watercraft inspection program, visit www.tahoercd.org or www.protecttahoe.org.
