2009 Lake Tahoe Autumn Food and Wine Festival
Next year’s Lake Tahoe Autumn Food and Wine Festival is scheduled for September 11-13. The Lake Tahoe Autumn Food and Wine Festival is a fundraiser for the Community Fund of North Lake Tahoe through the 501c(3) Truckee Tahoe Community Foundation. The 23rd annual festival is produced by the North Lake Tahoe Resort Association in partnership with Northstar-at-Tahoe; the Northstar Foundation; Ritz-Carlton Club, Lake Tahoe and Sunset magazine; Audi; Standards of Excellence; Nothing to It Culinary Center in Reno; Montreux Golf and Country Club; Charbay Vodka; the Sierra Nevada Media Group (including Tahoe.com, the Sierra Sun, Tahoe World and North Lake Tahoe Bonanza); and Tahoe Quarterly magazine.
More than 2,000 food and wine lovers came out for the 23rd Lake Tahoe Autumn Food and Wine Festival Sept. 5-7, where they were treated to gourmet demonstrations, fine libations and dozens of delectable creations from some of Sierra Nevada’s finest restaurants.
The festival, which took place at the Village at Northstar in North Lake Tahoe, featured Stephanie Izard, recent winner of Bravo TV’s Top Chef, a competitive grape stomp and Blazing Pans Mountain Chef Cook-Off. Chef Mike Trombetta from Farm to Belly Personal Chef Services took home the title of Blazing Pans Champion, after the judges favored his rabbit-themed dishes (this year’s secret ingredient) over two-time reigning champion Jacques Cornelis from the Resort at Squaw Creek.
“It was an amazing event this year,” Judy Laverty, special events manager for the North Lake Tahoe Resort Association, said. “The weather was fabulous and we were able to showcase some incredible talent. Many demonstrations sold out and everyone seemed to have a great time. We really can’t ask for more than that.”
This year’s Grand Tasting featured the food and wine pairings of more than 30 of the region’s finest restaurants, caterers and premium wineries. Food and wine industry professionals, in a double blind judging, tasted and rated each pairing. Guests also had the opportunity to cast ballots for their favorite pairings in the coveted People’s Choice Award.
