Commons Beach shows
Grab a low back chair and snacks and head to Commons Beach for two great family events:
• On Saturday, Aug. 30. movies at Commons Beach will feature a special Saturday showing of “The Princess Bride” beginning at dusk.
• Sunday, Aug. 31, jam out with The Duke Robillard Band at Concerts on Commons Beach, from 4 to 7 p.m.
• “What About Bob?” with Bill Murray and Richard Dreyfuss will be playing at The Village at Northstar starting at dusk on Friday, Aug. 29. Murray plays an obsessive-compulsive therapy patient who won't leave his successful therapist (Dreyfuss) alone, even when the therapist goes on a family vacation.
• From the Broadway stage in 1988 to the movie screen in 2007, “Hairspray” has been making news and delighting fans for twenty years. “Hairspray” features an all-star cast including John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer, Christopher Walken, and more. “Hairspray” will be playing at the Village at Northstar at dusk on Saturday, Aug. 30.
• Children and Disney fans alike will delight in this classic Academy Award-winning 1971 Walt Disney musical film which combines live action and animation.

“Bedknobs & Broomsticks” will be playing at dusk on Sunday, Aug. 31 at the Village at Northstar.

Dinner and a movie
Movie under the stars event taking place this Friday, Aug. 29 at 7:30 p.m. at Tahoe City Golf Course deck. The event features an outdoor movie, “Under the Tuscan Sun” and will be shown on a 25' blow up screen, along with a full sit down dinner experience.

The food is all being done by Radiant Blue Events and the pricing includes a complimentary glass of wine or beer, passed appetizers and then the full dinner to be served to you at your table.

Babysitting is available at the Rideout Community Center that night (exclusively due to the movie event), time from 7 to 11 p.m., and the cost is $10/child.

Free guided hike
Kingsbury Grade North towards Spooner Summit on Saturday, Aug. 30: This 4-5 mile out and back hike will lead you to beautiful, panoramic views of Lake Tahoe. Families are encouraged to attend, children over 7 years old please. For this hike, please leave your dogs at home. Meet at Kingsbury North Trailhead at 9 a.m.

Tahoe Biltmore
The Biltmore is kicking off a sports promotion Labor Day Weekend where folks can win tickets to the 49ers, Sac. Kings, golf rounds and lessons, LCD Flat Screen TV's, gift certificates for local sporting stores. The grand prize is a trip to Hawaii to see the Pro Bowl.
Thursday, Aug. 28: Clear Blue 22 is awesome rock and country band and they have a single that is out on the charts right now. They will be performing at the Tahoe Biltmore for free.

Friday and Saturday nights: Ed Lamoureux will play live every Friday and Saturday night from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. through Labor Day weekend inside the Tahoe Biltmore Casino.

Friday, Aug. 29: Fearless Chicken will be performing at in The Breeze Nightclub.
Saturday, Aug. 30 and Sunday, Aug. 31: Rainmaker will be performing in the Breeze Nightclub.

A Night of Comedy at Lakeside
Comedy is finally coming to Tahoe City. This exciting event is hosted by Sean Peabody and features Dennis Gaxiola and Paul Ogata with special guests Rowie and Aaron Wilson. The show starts at 8:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at Lakeside in Tahoe City for $10 in advance or $15 at the door.

Guitar Hero III Tourney
Come compete in the Guitar Hero III Tournament at Lakeside in Tahoe City on a 132 inch screen for prizes this Saturday, Aug. 30. Kids ages 7-13 play for free from 4 to 6 p.m. For a $10 entry fee, competitors ages 14-20 play 6 to 8 p.m. and over 21 play after 8 p.m.

The DeepEnd Under 21 Night Club
Lakeside in Tahoe City will once again become The DeepEnd for ages 14-20 only for one night only on Sunday, Aug. 31. Celebrate old times and the end of summer with DJ Fylosofee and special guests. Music starts at 9 p.m.

The Battle of The Bands Championship
Come see Lakeside’s two finalists battle it out for the grand prize on Tuesday, Sept. 2. Be sure to come out to support your favorite and influence our guest judges. The show starts at 9 p.m. with a $5 cover.

B5 Party
Live musical performances by Rise of the Revolution, Planting Seeds and Lavish Green will take place on Saturday, Aug. 30 from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Donner Ski Ranch on Donner Pass Rd.

A music and action sport event featuring live music, a downhill mountain biking demo and a mini ramp skate competition at 4 p.m. (registration is at 3 p.m.). Skate competition winners will receive a skate setup from Khiro Skateboard Products and will qualify for another competition offering a Khiro sponsorship.

Drinks and barbecue will be available all afternoon. A portion of the proceeds will go to benefit the Northern Nevada Chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The cost is a $10 entry fee.

• Sample wine from Joseph Family Vineyards at Time for Wine’s Saturday wine tasting, from 3 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 30. Time for Wine is located in the Boatworks Mall.

• Celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Bear League at Heritage Plaza on Sunday, Aug. 31, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, visit www.savebears.org. The Josh Martin and The Bearfoot Blues Band will perform and rock the stage starting at 1 p.m.

• More than 40 Northern California wineries will be present at the 20th Annual Alpen Wine Festival hosted by The Village at Squaw Valley USA and Uncorked Wine Bar. Former Olympic ski racer Jimmie Heuga will join wine aficionados at the event, which will help raise money for The Heuga Center for Multiple Sclerosis.

For a $40 donation to the Heuga Center, guests will receive a commemorative Spiegalau wine glass and unlimited wine tasting from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Village at Squaw Valley on Sunday, Aug. 31.

• Olivier Napa Valley will be hosting a musical Sunday brunch event between 9 a.m. and noon featuring a unique 6 to 8 item brunch menu and soulful sounds from local talent Corey Heimer & Friends. Ten percent of the proceeds will benefit the Truckee High School Music Program.

The Rock event

Celebrate summer’s last hurrah with complimentary pizza, microbrew, live music from the Bourgeois Gypsies and activities for kids at A Taste of the Rock, on Sunday, Aug. 31 from 3 to 5 p.m. at The Rock multiuse complex in Truckee.

On Sunday, Peluso’s Apizza will dish up a variety of on-the-house specialty pizzas for A Taste of the Rock attendees. More than two decades ago, the Pelusos started serving up Neapolitan style pizzas in Kings Beach and now lucky Truckee locals and visitors can satisfy their authentic Italian pizza cravings at the family’s newest location at The Rock.

In the fenced patio area, award-winning FiftyFifty Brewing Co. will open the taps on some of its most popular brews. This lively Truckee gathering spot is known for its brewery offerings, which include five, year-round beers and several seasonal beer specials.

Contributing to the late summer vibe, The Bourgeois Gypsies will get toes tapping with their unique blend of folk, blues and rock. The group describes their style as “countrified blues with slinky swamp ballads and a homespun hillbilly heart.”
And finally, kids will delight in balloon sculpting and a magic show, as well as other fun activities.

A Taste of The Rock is a free event sponsored by The Rock multi-use center, which is easily accessed off Highway 267 directly adjacent to the Ponderosa Golf Course next to the to the roundabout and across from Sierra Meadows at 11197 Brockway Road.

• Award winning local artists gather Labor Day weekend in Incline Village to show and sell their original artwork at Artists At Lake Tahoe Gallery. This 3rd annual show will run Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 30-31, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Featured artists include Don Britton, first place recipient in oil painting at the 2007 Carson Valley Art Association Annual Exhibit and Karen Colbert, voted N. Shore’s Best Local 2005 Artist for her Tahoe Quilts fabric art. Additional art mediums include jewelry, photography, watercolors, acrylics & pastels, gourds, art in wood, pottery, silk art and more.

The festival, hosted by the Artists at Lake Tahoe Gallery, will be held in the US Bank building parking lot on Highway 28 across from Raley’s in Incline Village. Owner Karen Colbert will donate 10 percent of her show proceeds to the Santa Claus Foundation.
