Get a taste of Incline

Chef Jay Veregge has already chosen Big Water Grille’s entry in Tastes of Incline.
It is figs and cambozola cheese — picked because Veregge knows it will be popular with the crowd attending the Aug. 28 event.
“People just really dig it,” Veregge said.
Veregge and the staff at the Big Water Grille have been volunteering their time and talents for the Tastes of Incline for years. In its seventh year, the Tastes of Incline offers a delectable spread created by more than a dozen chefs, along with wine and coffee.
This year’s Tastes of Incline will be from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, at The Chateau.
Big Water Grille returns each year because Tastes of Incline is a community event supporting community causes.
“It benefits our town. It’s a local event and we want to make sure we participate in our community,” Veregge said.
The proceeds from Tastes of Incline fund scholarships for local high school girls, given by the P.E.O. chapter of Incline, said publicity chair Meg Matta.
Besides supporting a good cause, chefs and restaurant owners support the event because they love participating in it, Matta said.
“It’s been positive. It’s really fun,” Veregge said.
Jenna Sonnenshein, chef at Sunshine Pastry and Provisions, said she is participating in the event because it serves a great cause.
“A lot of our loyal customers are involved and have been volunteering for the event every year, and it’s for a great cause — giving college scholarships to local women,” Sonnenshein said.
Chefs tell Matta that they mark the date each year so they can come back, she said.
“It’s a thing they like to do, it’s a thing we all like to do,” said Matta.
Tickets to the dinner, which attracts about 250 people, are $45 in advance and $50 at the door.
The P.E.O. members will be selling tickets from 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 22 in front of Village Market and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 22 to 23 in front of Raley’s, or people can send a check, payable to P.E.O. Chapter AC, to P.O. Box 7076, Incline Village, NV 89452. Raffle tickets will also be sold for $5 each or three for $10 and ticket holders will have a chance to win either $100, $250 or $500. You do not have to be present to win.
