If you’re like most Lake Tahoe tourists, you’re probably looking forward to seeing some of Lake Tahoe’s high country. While you can certainly do that on foot, why not let someone else’s feet do the walking so you can just take in the view?
Horseback riding is a popular activity in the Lake Tahoe area, with a handful of stables offering guided rides daily. Check out this list to get started on finding the right stable for your next Tahoe horseback adventure.
Alpine Meadows Stables
Take a one or two-hour ride through the forest at Alpine Meadows daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call 530-583-3905 for more information.
Camp Richardson’s Corral
Located at the intersection of Emerald Bay and Fallen Leaf Roads, you can ride horseback on guided walking tours for two hours or four hours. Camp Richardson also offers special rides revolving around special cowboy meals – like the Breakfast ride from 8-10 a.m. and the Steak Ride from 4:30 – 7 p.m. Wagon Rides and Overnight Pack Trips as well as Extended Pack Trips can also be set up with advance reservations. Take in the beauty of Cascade Lake and Lake Tahoe on one-hour, two-hour and all-day guided rides. Cascade Stables also offers breakfast and steak rides and leads pack trips into Desolation Wilderness. Special fishing trips and extended pack trips are also available with advance reservations. Kirkwood Corrals
The Kirkwood Corrals offer scenic horseback rides beginning mid-June through September 7th for ages seven and up. Maximum rider weight is 220 pounds with 1 ˝ hour rides $46 per horse and 2 ˝ hour rides $85 per horse. Call 209-258-4600 or 775-265-2664 for more information or to make reservations.
Tahoe Donner Equestrian Center
Located in the hills above the town of Truckee, the Tahoe Donner Equestrian Center is set on more than 3,000 acres of land. The little ones, aged 2 to 6 years old, can take a pony ride from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Pony rides are $25. Pony parties are also available upon request. Horseback trail rides range from the standard walk/trot guided tour to the custom private tour. One hour standard rides are $40; two-hour rides are $70 public.
