Western Week is always the second week of August in Truckee, Calif. and that means cowboys and cowgirls take the stage at the Truckee Championship Rodeo at McIver Arena.
Thursday, Aug. 7 the festivities begin with Kids Day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and finish off with Cowboy Poetry, featuring Larry Maurice, John Tyson and Dan Seaborg to name a few. The reading starts at 6:30 p.m. Gates open at 4 p.m.
Admission on Friday, Aug. 8 is free to the public; festivities start at 5:30 p.m. and gates open at 4 p.m.
Saturday, Aug. 9 and Sunday, Aug. 10 the PRCA Truckee Championship Rodeo hits the grounds. Gates open at 2 p.m. Saturday and at Noon on Sunday; competition starts at 4 p.m. Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday. Rodeo tickets are $12 at the gate; children under 6 are admitted free and children attending Kid’s Day will receive a $2 discount coupon on one adult admission.
Saturday night don’t miss the barbecue and dance at McIver Arena starting at 6:30 p.m. Tickets for dinner and the dance are $20 at the gate; children 6-and-under are $10. The menu for dinner is steak or chicken, salad, roll, beans and dessert. Live music by Johnny U and Cowboy Company.
