Triathletes swim or kayak, bike and then run at the Lake Tahoe Marathon’s Three-Day Triathlon Sept. 26-28, all part of the many events scheduled for Lake Tahoe Marathon Race Week (Sept. 24-28).
“Our Three-Day Triathlon is ideal for vacationing triathletes who want to compete in one event each day,” said Race Director Les Wright of the Lake Tahoe Marathon. “Participants choose from six different levels of competitive distances. They can also register for just a single event via our a la carte option.”
The Triathlon events are the Cutthroat, a two-mile swim, 72-mile bike and marathon; Mountain Man, 10-mile kayak, 72-mile bike and marathon; Kokanee, a one-mile swim, 35-mile bike and half marathon; Weekend Warrior, a five-mile kayak, 35-mile bike and half marathon; Mackinaw, a half-mile swim, 20-mile bike and 10K; or the Tenderfoot, a five- mile kayak, 20-mile bike and 10K. The swim and kayak events take place at Lakeside Beach in Stateline, Nevada. The 10K, half marathon and full marathon are all in conjunction with the Lake Tahoe Marathon’s regular-scheduled events for Sunday, Sept. 28.
Runners and walkers have a host of events to choose from during the Lake Tahoe Marathon Race Week (Sept. 24-28), including the Marathon, coined “a Sunday morning run you’ll never forget,” that winds down the West Shore from Tahoe City to South Lake Tahoe for a post-run bash; Tahoe Triple (three marathons in three consecutive days); Marathon Relays; Half Marathon; 20, 35 or 72-Mile Bike Races; 10K; 20-Miler Run, Jog and Walk; 5K; Kayaking events; free Kids Fun Run and Speed Golf.
For more information or to register (fees vary for events), call 530-544-7095 or visit the Lake Tahoe Marathon website at www.laketahoemarathon.com. The website is also home to a course map and profile and event descriptions.
Are you intense enough to run the marathon? Or will you be running in spirit while sitting on the couch watching Tivoed marathon events from this summer's Olympics?
