Jerry Rice, the NFLs all-time receiving leader, is one of 15 celebrities teeing it up at this year’s Lake Tahoe Celebrity-Am, Tuesday, July 8, at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course. The kick-off event to the American Century Championship.
Joining Rice are former NFL players Billy Joe Tolliver, Lynn Swann, Sterling Sharpe, Steve Bartkowski, Mark Rypien, Jim McMahon and Neil Lomax; past MLB players Vince Coleman, Kenny Lofton and Bret Saberhagen; former NHL all-star Brett Hull; NFL head coach Dick Jauron; and actor Alfonso Ribeiro and Olympic Golf Medal Winner Brandi Chastain.
Fans can get up close and personal with the stars at this Celebrity Golf Week Kick-off. In the shamble format, every player hits a tee shot and from the point of the best drive, each finishes the hole. Players receive 60 percent of their handicap with top finishers will receive golf merchandise prizes.
Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course, bordering Lake Tahoe, has one of the country’s most scenic and most challenging layouts. It plays 6,750 yards over manicured fairways, through pine forests and open meadows. Water on 14 holes and lightning fast greens make a lasting impression. Edgewood was also the site of the 1985 U.S. Senior Open, and the 1980 U.S. Public Links Championship.
After Tuesday’s Lake Tahoe Celebrity-Am, there’s 24-hour, star studded, celebrity nightlife and attractions typical of the Nevada venue. The South Shore’s most popular summer event continues with practice rounds and the 19th annual American Century Championship. More than 80 celebrities including Michael Jordan, John Elway, Charles Barkley and a host of Hollywood stars vying for $600,000 in prize money and the first place check of $125,000 in a three-day, modified Stableford format tournament.
Tickets are available in advance at www.BlueLakeTahoe.com or daily at the gate. Prices are $15 each day for the Lake Tahoe Celebrity-Amateur on Tuesday, July 8 and the practice round on Wednesday, July 9, and the American Century Celebrity-Am on Thursday, July 10; and $25 for each tournament round, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. A Season Pass for $60 provides admission for all six days of the event.
Discount tickets for Friday, Saturday or Sunday of the tournament, July 11, 12 & 13 are also available through July 10 at Raley’s and Bel-Air Supermarkets in South Lake Tahoe, Carson City, Incline Village, Gardnerville, Fallon, Reno, Sparks, Roseville, Sacramento, Cameron Park, Auburn, Rocklin, Antelope, Yuba City, Folsom, and Woodland at a discounted rate of $18 or $15 with a purchase of $50 or more.
