Experience a different kind of arts fair when the Tahoe Arts Project Fine Arts Festival comes to South Lake Tahoe July 12-13.
The non-profit group, Tahoe Arts Project (TAP) lands its 7th annual event at the South Tahoe Middle School (STMS) with free admission to over 40 artists who will present their unique talent. The event includes food, children's art projects, entertainment and more and has quickly become an area favorite.
Event cover artist, Louise Howes features her silk painting North of Cave Rock (artwork attached). Other locals participating are Dirk Yuricich (photographer), Molly Bennett (Jeweler), Heather Kovac (jeweler), Ann Thennes (gourd art) and the highly spirited dancers of Java Djembe. There will be a variety of local performers in music, dance, Aikido demonstration, singing, belly dancers and even a bag piper.
Not your typical craft fair, the Fine Arts Festival will feature various artists demonstrating how they create their work. The Picasso Art Park is an art area specifically for children and it will be open both days from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Work donated by some of the artists (including a silk painting by cover artist, Louise Howes) will be raffled off to support the local youth via TAP performing arts programs.
A wide variety of fine art, including painting, glasswork, jewelry, photography, woodwork, ceramics, sculpture, wearable art and metalwork will be featured at the Festival. The event is a fundraiser for TAP, a non-profit organization that brings professional performing arts to over 5,000 students in South Lake Tahoe and provides cultural enrichment and diversity for the community.
STMS is located at 2940 Lake Tahoe Blvd. and Hwy. 50 and the event will take place on Saturday between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. and also on Sunday from 10 a.m.
and 5 p.m. Visitors to the Fine Arts Festival will enjoy Cold Stone Creamery, German Sausages, Chuck Wagon (burgers, nachos, hot dogs etc), popcorn and lemonade.
For more information please call Tahoe Arts Project at (530) 542-3632.
TAP is a bi-state, nonprofit organization that hires artists to perform at
11 local schools serving over 5,000 K-12th grade students to meet the need for high quality fine arts activities for the region's children. "For most of these children, TAP provides their only exposure to live performing arts," stated TAP's executive director Peggy Thompson.
The nonprofit organization relies on the generosity of the local community to sponsor and fund the programs TAP brings to enrich the lives of local children. Donations will support the 2008 school performance programs. To make a donation, obtain a membership application, volunteer and for more information please call 530-542-3632, tahoearts@aol.com or visit www.TahoeArtsProject.org.
