Lake Tahoe residents and visitors can leave their cars behind and travel to outdoor recreation, restaurants, shops and nightlife destinations in style on the free Tahoe Trolleys, TART buses, the Northstar Free Hwy 267 Shuttle and the Free Emerald Bay Shuttle.

FreeTahoe Trolleys within Tahoe City start running June 26 between Granlibakken and Lake Forest Road. Trolleys also run between Tahoe Vista and Crystal Bay with service to North National Avenue from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day this summer.

The Free Tahoe City Trolley shuttle starts at 7:30 a.m. Thursdays to accommodate
parking for the Farmers Market on Commons Beach. So park your car at 64 Acres
and ride the Trolley to the Beach!

The Free Emerald Bay Shuttle connects to the Blue-Go Nifty Fifty Trolley with service to South Lake Tahoe. It’s a free transfer to Camp Richardson and then onto South Shore for various connections. Emerald Bay service runs from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. starting at the Bank of America TART stop in Tahoe City, to 64 Acres, Granlibakken, Rideout Community Center and all TART stops along the West Shore to Eagle Falls trail head. The TART buses run as far as Meeks Bay.

The FreeNorthstar shuttle runs from the Village at Northstar from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. with hourly service to Kings Beach and Crystal Bay at all TART Stops.

The ever so popular Trolley nighttime service is back from 6 p.m. until Midnight. The nighttime Tahoe Trolley runs from Squaw Valley to Incline Village. Granlibakken service is ON-Call. There will be extra Tahoe Trolley service on the nights of July 3 and July 4 for the holiday in Kings Beach, Squaw Valley and Tahoe City.

There are connections with the Trolleys, TART buses, Truckee Transit, the Emerald Bay & Northstar Shuttles. For detailed schedule information please check www.laketahoetransit.com.

The Tahoe Summer Transit Program helps visitors and locals alike save on gas while reducing traffic congestion. Especially exciting this year are the new connections to South Lake Tahoe which is aimed at alleviating traffic congestion on the West Shore.

The Free Tahoe Trolleys and Free Shuttles conveniently stops at beaches, playgrounds, museums, shopping, hiking and bike trails, golf courses, special events, water sports locations and other destinations. The Tahoe Trolleys, TART buses, Truckee buses and the Northstar and Emerald Bay Shuttles are equipped with bicycle racks, making it a convenient way to access the region’s various trailheads. With stops at casinos, clubs and restaurants, it’s also a great alternative to driving while enjoying North Lake Tahoe’s famed dining and gaming nightlife.

Using the Tahoe’s Summer Transit Program is a great way to chip in to protect Lake Tahoe’s fragile alpine environment. Increased public transit use also decreases traffic congestion, resulting in improved air and water quality. According to the California Air Resources Board, one car releases 15 grams of carbon monoxide into the air every 15 minutes.

Anything we can do to reduce traffic congestion aids to further protection of Lake Tahoe. Public transit is high on our list of ways to promote better air quality and keep Tahoe blue. We urge the Lake Tahoe community and its visitors to support this cause by traveling on the Tahoe Trolley rather than getting behind the wheel.

The Tahoe Trolley and the increased 30 minute service along Hwy 28 is operated by Placer County’s TART bus system and is funded by the North Lake Tahoe Resort Association, Tahoe Regional Planning Agency and local business sponsorships. The new Free Northstar shuttle is sponsored by Northstar-at-Tahoe and the North Lake Tahoe Resort Association.

The Free Emerald Bay Shuttle has been funded by a grant with the US Forest Service, Tahoe Transportation District and local West Shore business sponsors. We really appreciate the community support for the Summer Transit programs.
For schedule information call Tahoe Area Regional Transit at 530-550-1212, toll free at 800-736-6365, or log on to www.laketahoetransit.com. Ride the Bus, It’s Good for US! And it’s also lots of FUN!
