Expedition: Summer Headquarters will be open on weekends beginning July 4th with scheduled hours of Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. offering information on all summer activities including Kirkwood’s inaugural Mountain Bike Event Series, Mountain Bike Clinics, Fly Fishing Clinics, Climbing Clinics and Kids Programs. Guests can purchase a 2008 Summer season pass for unlimited use of chairlifts from July 4th through September 7th for a cost of $109 for adults (19 and up), $69 for juniors (6-18) and free for children 5 and under. 2008-09 Winter season passholders can upgrade their pass to include the summer season for only $59 for adults, $29 for ages 13-18 and $10 for ages 6-12. Purchase your 2008-09 Winter season pass online before July 8th to receive the lowest pricing and experience two new lifts in Emigrant Basin! Festivals
The resort is once again excited to offer a full lineup of festivals and events throughout the summer season. Things get under way with Kirkwood’s Fourth of July Celebration taking place July 4-6 consisting of a kid’s bike parade, ice cream social, carnival, and Volunteer Fire Department Benefit BBQ. The Annual Wildflower Festival will be held Aug. 2 with wine tasting, art booths, music, BBQ, guided hikes and more. And be sure to mark your calendars for the crowd-pleasing Thin Air Chili Cookoff scheduled for Aug. 30 with live music, beer/wine tasting and creative chili recipes!

Scenic chairlift rides
Kirkwood will offer scenic chairlift rides on weekends beginning July 4th with Chairs 1 and 2 operating Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (weather permitting). Chair 6 will operate on July 6th, Aug. 2 and Aug. 30 from Noon to 4 p.m. (weather permitting; no bikes). Single ride ticket prices will be $10 (ages under 5 are free).
Hiking
Guests can enjoy a variety of world class hiking trails for all ability levels with breath-taking views of the High Sierra and surrounding lakes. Trails meander through wildflower-filled meadows and healthy forests and include the historic Mormon Emigrant Trail. Guests can also access numerous trails via chairlifts when in operation on weekends (weather permitting). Mountain biking
The Kirkwood Valley is home to a network of roads and single track designed specifically for cross country and downhill mountain biking. Additionally, Kirkwood offers a Bike Park for those riders wanting to challenge themselves on such features as log rides, creek crossings, teeter-totters and more. Chairs 1 and 2 will operate on weekends (weather permitting) with daily lift ticket prices as follows: Adults (19 and up): $32 Full Day, $22 Half Day; Juniors (13-18): $22 Full Day, $17 Half Day; Child (6-12): $15 Full Day, $12 Half Day.
Summer 2008 season passes are available for $109 and 2008-09 winter season passholders can upgrade to include unlimited summer chairlift rides for $59. Mountain bike rentals are available on a first-come, first-serve basis and are $55 for a full day and $40 for a half day (begins at 12:30 p.m). For those looking to improve their riding skills, Kirkwood will be hosting Mountain Bike Clinics on July 5, Aug. 2 and Aug. 30 with a women’s only clinic scheduled for July 27. Additionally, the resort will be hosting an Event Series with Downhill Mountain Bike Races scheduled for July 20 and Aug. 31 and Cross Country Mountain Bike races scheduled for Aug. 16 and Sept. 6. Back by popular demand, Kirkwood will be setting up this summer’s 18 hole disc golf course in its original “Discwood” location behind Timber Creek. Guests can stop by the Lodging Front Desk or the Expedition Summer HQ in the Red Cliffs Day Lodge to grab a scorecard/map and discs are available for purchase in the General Store. Kirkwood offers a climbing wall, ropes course and zip line on weekends beginning July 4 through Aug. 31 from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays and 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sundays. The ropes course contains both high and low elements and can accommodate any age, ability level and group size. Costs are as follows: Climbing Wall $20, Ropes Course $20, Zip Line $15 with additional rides $5. Kirkwood will also offer clinics this season with Introduction to Climbing on July 6th at a cost of $50 per person and Climbing for Intermediates at a cost of $50 per person. Kirkwood JAM Day Camps will be held July 19, Aug. 16, Aug. 23 and Sept. 6 and will consist of outside activities, hiking, craft projects, games and swimming! The resort will also offer an Overnight Jam Camp on July 26 and July 27 during which kids will camp out in the footprint of the historic Mormon Emigrant Trail and enjoy an evening by the fireside complete with s’mores!
