Always seeking a challenge and the opportunity to learn something new, I made my way over to the golf course at Northstar-at-Tahoe to see if there was a possibility I could learn golf.
To review, I've never been a ball-sport type of girl. Never. And although I have no problem picking a tree line on the slopes, sending a tiny white ball through the air more than 400 yards into a hole less than 5 inches around is a totally different "ball" game.
Fortunately, Northstar head golf pro Pete Smith could help. I was drawn to Northstar because of their great deals on golf lessons this summer, especially a Wednesday women's clinic offered for only $25. Not bad...
Being a complete beginner, we started with the basics. We went to the driving range and practiced proper swing. We went over proper grip, toe up to toe up (that's club position), keeping the club in your fingers so with a flick of the wrist you can increase club speed (that makes the ball go further), and then we practiced putting for a little bit. We practiced adjusting my club speed to account for slow or fast greens and went over proper body position for putting.
After all was said and done, I actually learned some things - a lot of things actually - and now I'm thinking that maybe I could actually take up this sport...
Are you interested in taking up golf? Now's a great time, especially for ladies, who can drop-in to group lessons at 11 a.m. every Wednesday for only $25. Call 530-562-3290 for more details.
