Six professional rib cookin' teams will make their way to Lake Tahoe over Memorial Day Weekend for a juicy jamboree and battle of the barbecue. You can be the decider at the Best on the Mountain Rib Cookoff.
The resumes of these rib afficionados are staggering. Will Fernley Nevada's Gordon's Backyard Barbecuing and Catering's Sweet and Mild Sauce, which has been named the "official bbq sauce of the Nevada bbq championships" come out on top this time? Or will the notoriously saucy Kinder Mountain Barbecue team from Concord, Calif. slide into first?
Will Reno's up-and-coming Brothers' Barbecue "low and slow" method be enough to propel the newbies into the top three? Or will longtime favorites from Carson City Barbecue rake in the trophies?
While there are many questions, one thing is certain - there'll be plenty of good food going on!
Teams vy for first through third place in three categories: Best Ribs, Best Sauce and first place only in People's Choice. All ribs cooked will be pork ribs. The event starts Friday, May 23 and goes through Monday, May 26. Hours Friday through Sunday are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Monday the event closes at 5 p.m.
In addition to heaps of yummy ribs for sampling there'll be more than 75 arts and crafts booths and vendors lining up the street and parking lot at the Horizon Casino at Stateline, Nev. over the weekend.
This is a WilliamsLTD event. WilliamsLTD is involved with approximately 30 events a year in the Reno/Tahoe area and will host 16 arts and craft festivals at the Horizon Hotel & Casino throughout the summer.
