As the snow melts on the mountains south of Lake Tahoe, dirt devils find plenty of mountain biking opportunities at Kirkwood Mountain Resort. See what's in store for riders this summer at the 'Wood.

Ride downhill effortlessly on weekends - Kirkwood Mountain Bike Park
From July 4 through Sept. 7, mountain bikers can hitch a ride on Chairs 1 and 2 every weekend, trail conditions permitting. Choose from a network of roads and single track that lead you through spectacular terrain. Challenge yourself on Kirkwood Bike Park features including a teeter-totter, creek crossings, log rides and more. Mountain bike rentals available, advance reservations highly recommended
All Day Rentals $55, choose from Kona Coiler 6 or Stinky 7 models
Half Day Rentals $40 (starts at 12:30 p.m.)

Improve your skills - Mountain Bike Clinics, July 5, July 27 (women only), Aug. 2 and Aug. 30
Join Kirkwood's knowledgeable guides to improve your riding skills. You'll learn various techniques that will allow you to ride all types of terrain confidently. This is a great way to prepare for our Mountain Bike Race Series. Clinics will be held 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and includes lift ticket. $50 per person.

Ready for racing - Kirkwood hosts Cross Country & Downhill Mountain Bike Race Series, July 12, Aug. 16 and Sept. 6
Set a goal and mark the calendar for three dates to test your toughness at Kirkwood's Cross Country Racing Series. Cost is $10 per event or $25 for all three. Register from 7:30-8:30 on race day and compete from 9 a.m. to Noon. Village barbecue stocked with refreshments and live music to follow until 2 p.m.
Downhill race from 3-4 p.m., awards from 4-4:30 p.m.
Downhill Mountain Bike Series
Do you think climbing is a waste of your time? Let the chairlift do all the work while you have all the fun. Test your speeds against fellow riders July 20 and Aug. 31at Kirkwood's Downhill Mountain Bike Race Series. Registration is $35 per event or $60 for both. Register from Noon to 1 p.m. on race day; practice runs from 1-2:30 p.m. and race meeting from 2:30-3 p.m. Race and awards to follow.

Near Death Experience, June 5-8
If you think you're tough on two wheels, consider this is a must-not-miss event. June 5-8 join riders in the Near Death Experience Camp which focuses on preparation for the 2008 Tour of the California Alps (aka: Markleeville Death Ride). Camp includes
guaranteed entry to the Death Ride, professional coaching, event jersey, Altitude
Climbing Endurance Training Manual, all meals, camp photos, SAG support and
