Paper or plastic? Lake Tahoe's MontBleu introduces environmental initiatives to reduce, reuse and recycle to help keep Tahoe clear and blue in the long run.
Here are just a few of the interesting things the Resort & Casino is doing or has done with its commitment to a cleaner environment:
Turning old tablecloths and linens into casino’s coin bags instead of using plastic
Switched to energy-efficient T8 light bulbs
Banned styrofoam cups on the premises
Offering environmentally-friendly Aveda beauty products exclusively throughout the hotel.
Using eco-friendly cleaning products in the housekeeping department
Recycled scrap metal from 2005 renovations and is recycling all paper on the property
Using recycled paper products wherever possible
Hotel guests are also invited to assist with MontBleu’s green goals by refraining from daily linen and towel service.
MontBleu’s efforts reach beyond the property. As a “Clean Tahoe Day” and “Adopt a Highway” volunteer, the resort is working to maintain its pristine location near Lake Tahoe. This hard work has not gone unrecognized; VirtualTahoe.com and TahoesBest.com acknowledged MontBleu as an Environmentally Conscious Tahoe Business. In 2007, the property was named “Adopt a Highway Volunteer of the Year” in Amador County, for the stretch of Highway 89 cleaned monthly by employees.
MontBleu will host South Lake Tahoe’s Earth Day Festival, Saturday, April 19, 2008 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.. The South Shore Earth Day committee is providing bands, entertainment and informational booths. MontBleu has donated their facilities in an effort to raise community awareness of Lake Tahoe’s environmental heritage.
Future plans for the “Bleu Goes Green” program includes reduction of toilet water tank and faucet waste, selling used vegetable oil to the Bentley Biofuels Company to produce biodiesel, converting company vehicles to biodiesel, becoming a recognized green property, implementing bike-to-work days, green weddings, and ink jet/toner cartridge recycling.
