Clear skies, and the snow
is fantastic

Does it get any better than this? Blue skies and chilly temperatures are forecast through the weekend, which means there is no better time to get some snow sports going on. Check out the snow conditions here, and you'll see that almost every resort is open 100%. We're in prime time, baby.

This Saturday, we'll be hanging out at Diamond Peak, which is ready to go with all lifts open and the base is fine. It'll be a blast! Stop by the tent, say howdy, and tell us you read about it in the Powderhound newsletter ... we'll give you a T-shirt just for saying hi!

If you can't hit the slopes this weekend, check out some of our videos below we've taken the last few weeks during our tahoe.com ski days. We've got fly tricks, sweet crashes and just a whole bunch of people having a great time up in the snow. You gotta make one of our tahoe.com days, so check out the list below for future dates.

Everything you need to know for a good day burning calories

by Wendy Lautner, tahoe.com

Looking to really shed those holiday pounds? It might be time to give alpine skiing's lesser-known sister a try. According to NurtriStrategy.com -- a comparative exercise website -- cross country skiing is one of the No. 1 calorie burners around.

Participants burn up to 1,200 per hour and the exercise supposedly does wonders for stress levels as well. Cross country ski areas are notoriously less crowded than primarily downhill resorts, equating to less hustle and bustle and more quality time in nature. For die-hard, downhill powderhounds, it's also a great training ground while sunny skies prevail.

For this week's Experts Corner we went over to the quiet, cozy Spooner Lake Cross Country Ski Area on Lake Tahoe's East Shore.

This week's Powderhound winner is ...

Jeff submitted this picture of Greta, during her first-ever snow trip. Jeff wins this week's Powderhound T-shirt and is now entered into the grand prize drawing for a $100 Petco gift certificate! Congratulations!

Your furry best friend could win a Petco gift certificate! Send us a photo of your snow dog, and look for it the following week at our Powderhound Gallery. Each week, our staff will pick one lucky participant to win a Powderhound Report T-shirt. That winner will have their dog featured in that week's issue of the Powderhound Report, and will automatically be entered into the grand prize drawing for a $100 Petco certificate. Submit your photo here, (don't forget to include your name in the caption!) and we'll notify you if you're a winner! We can't wait to see your Powderhound! Good luck!
