One of the best things about sledding is its popularity as a fun family activity. There's very little skill required and also very little cost involved, making it a great option for almost everyone. At the resorts
Boreal: Playland, groomed sledding hill; saucers provided; $15 for full day. Kids must be 42” or taller. Hours: 10 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Daily.
Granlibakken: Saucer only. $5 per day. Rental $4 per day. Hours: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Daily.
Heavenly: Gondola ride to Adventure Peak. Rope tow return; $20 per hour. Kids must be 40” or taller. Gentler hill available for smaller kids. $7 an hour. Prices do not include gondola tickets. Hours: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. M Daily.
Kirkwood: One-hour passes are $14. Additional hours are $7. All day passes are $20. All passes can be purchased at the Tubing Hill. Open Saturdays and holidays from noon - 7:30 p.m. and Sundays from noon - 4:00 p.m. All participants must be at least 3 years old and more than 3 feet tall. Minors must be accompanied by an adult.
Kingvale: Extreme tubing on three high speed lanes. Traditional sledding also available. $20 for day passes and equipment for kids 8 and under; $25 for ages 9 and up. Two hour tubing passes are $10 and $15. Tubers must be at least 3 years old. Hours: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday through Sunday and on holidays.
North Tahoe Regional Park: $5 for all day access and a saucer for groomed trail on Concessionaire's Hill. All other trails are free. Parking: $4 per vehicle. Hours: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Daily.
Northstar-at-Tahoe: Tubing Center located above Northstar’s gondola. Rental equipment available. Rope tow available. Tubers must be 36 inches or taller and able to ride solo. Hours: 10a.m to 4 p.m. on weekends; 12:00 to 4 p.m. on weekdays.
Sierra-at-Tahoe: High-banked turns propel tubers 425 fee. Lift access and tube rentals are provided for a few. Kids under 42 inches must ride with an adult. Hours: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day, depending on weather.
Squaw Valley: The Papoose Learning center offers tubing on two groomed lanes complete with berms and rollers. $10 per hour. Kids whose legs can’t reach the snow from the tube will need to ride with an adult. Hours: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Daily.
Tahoe Donner: Sledding allowed on the driving range near the Trout Creek Recreation Center. Guest fee covers sled and saucer rental (no personal equipment allowed). No tow rope. Hours: 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and holidays. 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Fridays. Call 530-587-9437 for information.

Emigrant Gap: Laing Road on the south side of I-80, 4 miles west of the turnoff to Highway 20.
*Yuba Gap: On frontage road south of I-80; use Yuba Gap Exit. Snow play area, cross-country ski trails, no snowmobiles, no buses. Parking capacity: 200 cars.
*Cisco Grove: On north side of I-80, at entrance to Thousand Trails; use Cisco Grove Exit. No overnight parking. Capacity: 50 cars.
Mt. Rose: In the Sheep Flat Meadows just west of the summit on Highway 431.
Spooner Summit: On Highway 28 just off of Highway 50, approximately 13 miles north of South Shore/Stateline.
Tahoe City: On the east or lakeside of Highway 89 just south of the Truckee River.
*Taylor Creek: West side of Hwy. 89, near Camp Richardson. Limited snow play, no snowmobiles, ski trail to Fallen Leaf Lake. Capacity: 30 cars.
*Echo Lake: Off Hwy. 50, on road to Echo Lake, 1 mi. west of Echo Summit. No snowmobiles, poor snow play, but good for cross-country skiing.
*Echo Summit: South side of Hwy. 50 at Echo Summit. Snow play, excellent sledding, some cross-country skiing. No snowmobiles. Capacity: 100 cars.
