Take a hike or ride a bike and bring along the family. You don't have to be a long-distance hiker or hard-charging mountain biker to enjoy the beauty of mountains, meadows and valleys in the Reno and Lake Tahoe areas. There are many gentle trails, bike paths, and flat valley roads that everyone from kids to grandparents will enjoy. So pack a lunch and begin to explore the beauty of nature in the fall.

On the hunt for the perfect fall photo
Different people hike, bike, climb and ski into the backcountry for different reasons -- the beauty, the challenge, the solitude -- or the pictures they bring back. Even the most ultra-light explorers out there make a multi-ounce exemption for good photo equipment, but bringing home the prize shot means good technique and good equipment.

Point and shoots are the easiest to get started on, most can fit in a pocket, and are also the least expensive. Limited lenses can restrict the shooter's range, and lack of manual controls on some models can be frustrating, but something small you can carry with you everywhere will always get a better shot than the uber-cool SLR you left at home.

Fine dining, Tahoe-style: No ties required
From sophisticated foodies to families with hungry kids, travelers to Lake Tahoe will find a variety of excellent foods to please everyone's palate. At Lake Tahoe, the term "fine dining" covers everything from white tablecloths to classy lounge or deck dining. Clothing defined as business or resort casual is always appropriate. Ties at Tahoe are not necessary.

Slow crawl: Hitting the pubs in Kings Beach
Sprinkled along the four lanes of pavement and sandy North Shore town that is Kings Beach are various restaurants, bars and restaurants that have bars. With a handful of nice spots to water your hole, all within walking distance, Kings Beach is the ideal place for that ever glorious social event known as the Pub Crawl.

The Tahoe World Action Team sacrificed a Thursday evening -- and consequently most of Friday morning -- to research the bar stools of Kings Beach. We started at the west end and moved east to the far side of the grid before meandering our way back into the heart of town.
