The Summit at Harrah’s, featuring contemporary continental cuisine, is one of the most prestigious restaurants in the Lake Tahoe region. Lauded by critics and diners, The Summit is renowned for an uncompromising commitment to impeccable service, superior cuisine and inviting ambience. Harrah’s Lake Tahoe debuts its first in a series of Winemaker Dinners on Thursday evening, Oct. 4, when The Summit presents Chateau St. Jean Winery of Sonoma County, Calif..

Experience an evening of perfectly paired dishes and fine wines from the award-winning winery, Chateau St. Jean. The guest presenter will be Barbara Dahl, winery representative, with dinner prepared and matched under the supervision of Summit Chef de Cuisine Michael Pieller.

Begin the evening with an appetizer of pancetta wrapped Ahi Tuna with fingerling potatoes, leek and Chantrell mushroom ragout, accompanied by a delicious Chateau St. Jean 2005 Chardonnay, Robert Young Vineyard, Alexander Valley. This Chardonnay features fresh aromas of lemon cream, Bartlett pear, vanilla and light tropical notes.

The appetizer is followed by an exquisite salad of pan roasted squab with mache, frisse and pomegranate vinaigrette, served with a teaser of candy striped beet, fennel and ginger soup, accompanied by the Chateau St. Jean 2005 Pinot Noir, Sonoma County. On the palette, this Pinot is velvety and satisfying with an amazing texture.

The entrée for the evening is the Broken Arrow Ranch Duet: a prized Silka venison chop – native to Manchuria and Japan – and the delectable wild boar tenderloin, treasured by hunters and royalty alike. Both are accompanied by an Italian baby fig compote with rosti potato and roasted spaghetti squash. The entrée is paired with the Chateau St. Jean 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon Cinq Cepages. A Sonoma classic, this Wine Spectator award-winning Bordeaux blend is a serious wine, bursting with vivid and vibrant cassis, black cherry and plum fruit, blended with dried spice and smoky flavors.

A selection of handcrafted cheeses, with lychees and Asian pear strudel, will be served with a Chateau St. Jean 2006 Gewurztraminer.

Reservations for the Winemaker Dinner may be made by calling 775-586-6230. Price for the Chateau St. Jean event is $95 per person. A reception for the dinner begins at 5:30 p.m. In addition to the Oct. 4 Winemaker Dinner, Chateau St. Jean wine selections will be offered the entire month of October, with wines paired with the “Chef’s Selection” menu.

The Summit will be offering monthly Winemaker Dinners including Brassfield Estate Winery of Clearlake Oaks (Napa), Calif. on Nov. 1, featuring menu selections made by the winery’s Executive Chef John Adamson. The Summit is open for dinner Wednesday through Saturday at 5:30 p.m. For Summit reservations, exclusive of the Winemaker Dinners, please call 775-588-6611.
