When the warm days of summer start to fade and the days grow shorter, it means fall is starting to make an appearance in the Tahoe Basin and it's time to prepare for the 18th Annual Kokanee Salmon Festival which takes place Oct. 6 and 7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the U.S. Forest Service Visitor Center, 3 miles north of South Lake Tahoe on California Highway 89.

Around Lake Tahoe in eight hours: A day-trip diary
Lake Tahoe offers some pretty amazing places to go and see. It's possible to spend a whole week trying to experience it all and still not do everything. But that doesn't mean you can't hop in the car and make a day trip out of driving around the lake; that way, you will at least see all of it. So grab your map or GPS, some friends or family and hop in the car as I take you on a day trip around Lake Tahoe.
On a sunny Sunday morning my fiancée Lauren and I hopped in the car in Reno, pointed ourselves toward Lake Tahoe by way of Mt. Rose Highway (State Route 431) and embarked upon our day-long adventure.

Theme nights on the Tahoe Gal paddlewheel boat offer something for everyone
As the sun began to sink closer and closer to the jagged horizon created by the Sierra Crest, Ed Delmon of Maker's Mark told the jovial crowd of diners inside the stylishly remodeled dining room on the Tahoe Gal everything about small batch bourbons.
"All bourbons are whiskeys, not all whiskeys are bourbons," Delmon started.
The Monday night sunset dinner cruise aboard North Tahoe Cruises' 60-foot paddlewheel riverboat throwback featured not only Maker's Mark, but Basil Hayden, Booker's, Baker's and Knob Creek.
