Welcome the fall season with three days of triathlons at the Lake Tahoe Marathon week
Tahoe.com
Triathletes swim or kayak, bike and then run at the Lake Tahoe Marathon’s Three-Day Triathlon Sept. 27-29, all part of the many events scheduled for Lake Tahoe Marathon Race Week (Sept. 25-30).
“Our Three-Day Triathlon is ideal for vacationing triathletes who want to compete in one event each day,” said race director Les Wright of the Lake Tahoe Marathon. “Participants choose from four different levels of distances and competitions.”
The Triathlon events are a two-mile swim, 72-mile bike and marathon; 10-mile kayak, 72-mile bike and marathon; 1.5-mile swim, 35-mile bike and half marathon; 10-mile kayak, 35-mile bike and half marathon; one-mile swim, 35-mile bike and 10K; five-mile kayak, 35-mile bike and 10K; half-mile swim, 20-mile bike and 10k; and five-kayak, 20-mile bike and 10K. All the swim events take place at Zephyr Cove. The kayak races start at Timbercove Lodge beach and end at Zephyr Cove. The 10K, half marathon and full marathon are all in conjunction with the Lake Tahoe Marathon’s regular-scheduled events for Saturday, Sept. 29.
Registration fees for all Three-Day Triathlon events are $200 per person until Sept. 26 and $225 on race day. Individuals can also register a la carte for any of the triathlon events (see the website for fees, rules and details). Equipment, such as bikes, kayaks and wetsuits can all be rented in Lake Tahoe.
Runners and walkers have a host of events to choose from during the Lake Tahoe Marathon Race Week (Sept. 25-30), including the Marathon, coined “a Saturday morning run you’ll never forget,” that winds down the West Shore from Tahoe City to South Lake Tahoe for a post-run bash; 10K (99% downhill); Tahoe Triple (three marathons in three consecutive days); 72-Mile Ultra Run; Speed Golf; Marathon Relays; Half Marathon; 5K, which takes participants past the historic estates of Valhalla; free Kids Fun Runs and a 20, 35 and 72-Mile Bike Races.
For more information or to register (fees vary for events), call 530-544-7095 or visit the Lake Tahoe Marathon website at http://www.laketahoemarathon.com">www.laketahoemarathon.com. The website is also home to a course map and profile, event descriptions and 2006 race results.
