Tahoe.com
Less than two weeks remain to register for this year’s I-CAN RUN/WALK event happening Tuesday, July 3 in Incline Village, Nev. Organizers have put together “the best ever” 5 and 10 K fun run/walk, with impressive prizes, high quality self-wicking running shirts and race-end activities unmatched in its 24 year event history.
Locals and visitors who plan to revel at Lake Tahoe during this year’s mid-week Fourth of July celebration should seriously consider registering for the 24th annual I-CAN RUN/WALK. This is a great event for families, church groups, and running groups to take part in. Well behaved dogs are welcome as well. Another reason to sign up: proceeds from the I-CAN RUN/WALK benefit local non-profit organizations including Project MANA, The Boys & Girls Club, Tahoe Women’s Services and the Children’s Cabinet.
The event commences with a flag-raising ceremony accompanied by horns bugling at 8:15 a.m.. The children’s races start at 8:40 a.m. and the 5 K run/walk and the 10 K run begin promptly at 9 a.m.. The race loops through scenic Incline Village, starting and ending on the Sierra Nevada College campus.
All racers in the kids divisions (ages 4-5, 6-7 and 8-10) will be awarded ribbons or medals. In lieu of trophies, adult division winners will collect accolades in the form of Salomon running shoes, Maui Jim sunglasses and Camelbak hydration packs.
Cost for the race is $30 for adults, $35 for race-day registration, and $10 for participants through grade 12. Runners participating in the 5 and 10 K will receive a self-wicking running shirt; 5 K walkers and children 10 and younger will receive a commemorative t-shirt. At the finish line, a healthy lunch will be provided for all racers. Several new activities have been added to the Family Fun Zone this year such as a bouncy house, a climbing wall, and a kids’ treasure hunt. Event organizers have also secured great raffle prizes such as gift cards at first-rate local dining establishments, Shakespeare Festival tickets, Northstar-at-Tahoe lift tickets, and a two night stay at the Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe. Commemorative event t-shirts and the self-wicking running shirts will also be available for purchase. Ample nearby parking has been secured to make attendance hassle-free.
Taking part in the I-CAN RUN/WALK is a great way to celebrate the Fourth of July. This feel-good event is a sanctioned part of the Red, White and Tahoe Blue three day Incline Village Independence Day celebration.
