Take on a physical challenge that you’ll remember for the rest of your life by participating in the Tahoe Rim Trail Association’s (TRTA) 165-Mile Guided through Hike, which kicks off Sunday, July 29.

Outdoor enthusiasts will hike 15 consecutive days, averaging 12 miles most days and a 2,700 foot elevation gain or loss as a fund-raiser for the TRTA. This year two groups of 20 will hike in opposite directions with three guides each. The hike is limited to 40 participants. Each participant is asked to pay $1,500 to assist the TRTA in its ongoing efforts to maintain and enhance the Tahoe Rim Trail. Special Trail Angels will support participants by bringing personal supplies and water to each trailhead. Many of the meals will also be provided. This through hike is physically challenging.

This event will kick off on Saturday July 28 at the Tahoe Trail Fest in Tahoe City. This event will include local vendors, food, live music and more. All Hike-A-Thon participants will be invited to attend this event to prepare for their 15 day journey on a trail like no other the following day.

After 20 years of work, the Tahoe Rim Trail, a 165-mile loop trail that runs along the ridges circling Lake Tahoe, was completed in September 2001. More than 10,000 volunteers and the US Forest Service built the trail. It is open to hikers, equestrians, and on 60% of the trail for mountain bikers. An estimated 3,000 people use the trail each week during peak summer and fall months. The Tahoe Rim Trail is considered one of the most successful volunteer trail projects. Each year, more than 1,000 volunteers give more than 10,000 hours to the organization.

The Tahoe Rim Trail Association is a non-profit organization that builds, promotes and maintains the Tahoe Rim Trail, which provides access to the beauty of the Lake Tahoe Region. The association works in partnership with the US Forest Service and Nevada State Parks.
