Horseback riding knights aren't just the stuff of fairy tales anymore. The lake's most popular summer festival is returning once again over the first two weekends in June, (June 2-3 and June 9-10) and will transport visitors to a country fair in late-1500s England. While at the festival; visitors will hoist their tankards and bend elbows with ambassadors from foreign lands and juggling jesters, winsome wenches, lords and ladies, peasants, merchants, knight of horseback, squires, soldiers and simpletons in authentic costumes who re-create an Elizabethan country fair.

The faire will feature four stages of continuous entertainment, Queen Elizabeth’s court, expertly staged battle scenes and theatrical performances, lively crafts marketplace, storytelling for children and adults, belly dancers, knights on horses, musicians, archery tournaments and much more. There will be more merchants selling a wider array of arts and craft including one of a kind jewelry items, woodcrafts, artwork, ceramics, clothing, hats, accessories and historic weapons.

The weekend’s highlights include the Knights of Mayhem, a professional jousting and acting troupe that will entertain the public with its whimsical theatrics, equestrian skills and jousting proficiency. The knights will compete in duels on horseback twice daily. Contests will include spear throwing, ring spearing and cabbage cutting. Onlookers will be astounded by the action of the hard-hitting lance-splitting jousting. Hundreds of pounds of man, horse and metal collide and do battle right before your eyes. It is almost guaranteed that a scuffle will break out between the battling knights, and just as surely the Queen will restore order.

On the second weekend of Valhalla the Faire will host a Pirate Theme, and attendees are encouraged to dress as Pirates and join in the fun.

During the week between the festival weekends, a multi-day school program will be held for area school children interested in learning more about the period, with history lectures, demonstrations, and a range of opportunities offered to help encourage an interest in history and reading. Home schoolers as well as public school children from surrounding counties will get a change to learn and experience first hand the life and times during the Renaissance era through a series of hands-on workshops held Wednesday, June 6 and Thursday, June 7.

The Renaissance Festival will start at 10 a.m. June 2-3 and 9-10. It runs until 6 p.m. Saturdays and 5 p.m. Sundays. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for seniors, military, and ages 13 to 17, and $5 for children 3 to 12. More information can be found at http://www.valhallafaire.com">www.valhallafaire.com.
