Squeeze in for breakfast
Food Bites: A blog about Tahoe's dining and restaurant scene

Hankerin’ for a hot home-cooked breakfast? Get there early and you can just squeeze into a favorite spot with Truckee locals that boasts the best omelets on the planet – count ‘em, 62! The place is called, what else…Squeeze In, aptly named for the narrow store front and long skinny interior.
As a first timer you might miss it (I did!) Walk slowly along the main drag in Old Town, toward the junction of Hwy 261. If you get to the corner and the Bar of America, you’ve gone too far. Omelets ($10) are tasty and big enough for two, as are the stacks of pancakes; fresh squeezed orange juice is a must. Breakfast freaks can have it when they want it, all day any day. The place opens at 7 a.m., 7 days a week and closes at 2, except on Fri and Sat when you can have an omelet or regular lunch & dinner fare until 8 p.m.
Service is fast and friendly and the place is casual bordering on funky…but, hey, you’re in Truckee! No matter how hard those ritzy developers try to turn this old railroad town into a chic Aspen of the Sierras, a little old time funk will always be here, and that’s a good thing. The Squeeze In space, with lots of history on the walls, has been around in many incarnations since the 1860’s. This latest is worth a try.
