Advise Placer County Board of Supervisors on matters of concern which relate to the area served by the council, but not limited to land use, public health, safety, public works, law enforcement and recreation. In addition, the council shall advise the board on matters specifically referred to it by the board for review and recommendation. The council shall be empowered to advise and make recommendations to the planning department on matters pertaining to design review of proposed projects in design review districts in the North Tahoe area.

The council shall have nine members from the North Tahoe area appointed by the Board. Two members at large. Members shall serve staggered two-calendar year terms.

The County of Placer is the primary local government at North Lake Tahoe and provides a wide variety of public services such as public protection, health and human services, land use planning and oversight, roads and snow removal, library, fiscal management, economic development, elections and recording of public documents.

Five board members are elected by district to 4-year terms The District 5 Supervisor, who represents the Tahoe area is Rex Bloomfield, who began his third term in January 2001.

The board usually meets about every other Tuesdays at 9 a.m. in the County Administrative Center, 175 Fulweiler Ave., Auburn. Special meetings are also held occasionally.
