On the Hill: Sunset Hike on Tahoe Rim Trail
  • On the Hill Summer, brought to you by The Steadman Clinic and the Steadman Philippon Research Institute, brings you a video report about a different Lake Tahoe adventure every day.

Today’s activity: A sunset hike on the Tahoe Rim Trail.

About the ride: Early June mornings are the perfect time to get out and hit the roads. Cars are fewer, the lake is smooth as silk with no boat traffic and the weather tends to be just cool enough to make a long ride comfortable. The South Shore bike trail starts at Hwy 89 and heads up to Fallen Leaf Lake and to Lily Lake. The 20-mile ride is mostly flat, and you pass most state campgrounds and has options to pass great waterfalls and make stops at smaller lakes along the way.

Today’s weather: And summer is back; today’s high is 76 with no rain. Sunset isn’t until 8:29p tonight, so grab a flashlight and a buddy and get out there. Don’t forget the camera! — National Weather Service
