On the Hill: Hiking to Winnemucca Lake
  • On the Hill Summer, brought to you by The Steadman Clinic and the Steadman Philippon Research Institute, brings you a video report about a different Lake Tahoe adventure every day.

Today’s activity: Hiking to Winnemucca Lake.

Conditions: On a beautiful June day, Michelle takes a hike to Winnemucca Lake. The hike is an easy one, but is about 5 miles roundtrip. Get there via Carson Pass and Highway 88. Kids love this hike as the trails are well maintained and in soon the wildflowers will be in full bloom. Stop at Frog Lake on the way for a break, and since it’s too early for wildflowers, out come the fishing poles! Don’t forget the bug spray.

Today’s weather: We’re still in a cool weather pattern, particularly for June; today’s high at Carson Pass is just 57 with low winds. A little chilly, but hey, the bugs won’t be as prolific! — National Weather Service
