You might assume that the best view of Lake Tahoe is from the deck of a boat. But with a little help from Reno Tahoe Helicopters, you can see Lake Tahoe from an elevated perspective—the cockpit of a helicopter.
Reno Tahoe Helicopters offers a range in services, departing daily from the airports in South Lake Tahoe, Minden-Tahoe and Truckee. Perhaps their most popular service is the wedding package, which lets couples get married hundreds of feet over the lake.
“We do a lot of weddings in the helicopter. I had the idea about 7 years ago. I thought why not, so I contacted a wedding minister. Now with a bigger helicopter we can take 6 people,” says Claudio Bellotto, founder of Reno Tahoe Helicopters. They also offer basic and advanced training and photography/filming expeditions, “We recently did a lot of work for National Geographic and we provided flight training for the FAA flight examiner, who issues the pilot licenses.”
Claudio has been in the business of flying for about 29 years since his time working as a pilot in the Italian Air Force. He’s been flying ever since. He recalled his first time flying a helicopter, “It was about 12 years ago it was magic and still is. It’s like a perfect marriage that never gets old and everything is like the first time. Every time I go up, it’s like the first time.”
All rides vary in price and length, but Claudio says the 20 minute and 30 minute helicopter rides are really the best. They’re the sweet spot when it comes to value and time in the air.
For those looking for the full experience, Reno Tahoe Helicopters offers a number of specials. For sheer beauty, check out the waterfall tour, where you’ll see a number of stunning waterfalls, Emerald Bay and a beautiful view of the Aloha Lake and Horse Tail Waterfall. The grads and dads package is a perfect gift for high school or college graduates. This package gives you the opportunity take over the helicopter controls, with a little preflight training, of course. For an unforgettable date try the Lake Tahoe tour and dinner special. Start your date with a flight over the lake. After your flight enjoy a fabulous dinner at The Flight Deck. And for a stunning sunset experience, Reno Tahoe Helicopter offers a special sunset ride that can maintain a sunset for about 25 minutes.
“The trick is to be on the north side of the lake when the sunset begins at a low elevation. Then keep climbing to maintain the sunset which can last for about 25 minutes,” Claudio explains.
With a full staff and four helicopters, Claudio and his pilots, who he calls the dirty half-dozen, are more than equipped to take drop ins. Or, call them at (530) 208-5247 to schedule a tour.
