Lake Tahoe’s All-Women Sport Camp is set to host 3 days of multiple sport activities including cross country mountain biking, downhill mountain biking, road cycling, triathlon and running for active women of all levels, primarily beginner to high intermediate. Lead by world-class professional women athletes and top industry instructors, ladies can choose from over 22 informational and skills clinics, group bike rides and group runs that will access a variety of Lake Tahoe’s beautiful paths and trail system. Other activities include yoga and stand-up paddle boarding on Lake Tahoe.
“Our camp is a full blow active weekend of sports education and outdoor fitness where women can show up in the comfort of their favorite sport, or use this as an opportunity to learn a new sport,” says Event Director, Inger Norman. “Last year we had a triathlete show up and join the beginner mountain bike clinic. Now she’s doing Off-Road Triathlons. We also had a runner who gained enough confidence to sign up and train for her first triathlon. And it makes sense because there’s so much information and skills that cross over.” Norman continues, “There’s a lot of amazing all-women’s sport specific camps and events, yet currently nothing that ties all these sports together in one place like this.”
Having worked in the Sports/Event Marketing industry for over 13 years, Inger specializes in women’s experiential marketing and knows first hand that the “all-women” theme is no where near its tipping point. “Women have a way of communicating in a compassionate manner, creating a non-intimidating environment. It’s a safe place to ask those questions where one may otherwise feel a bit embarrassed or discouraged. Our All-Women’s Sport Camp is the place to build confidence and we’re really excited to bring all of this together for a great weekend.”
The camp will run August 10-12, 2012, hosted at Northstar™ California and lead by an impressive roster of women athletes, including Marla Streb – the most recognized woman in mountain biking; Jessi Stensland - Professional Triathlete and Movement Specialist; and Julie Young – Former USA Cycling Team member. With some of the strongest names in women’s endurance sports, the camp also includes world-class coaches and instructors that train professional teams and athletes. Camp participants can sign up for 1, 2, or all 3 days and will have the opportunity to demo bikes from Specialized women’s brand and win prizes from sponsors such as Camelbak, Oakley, and Luna Bar.
Proceeds of Lake Tahoe’s All-Women Sport Camp will benefit Women For Women International – an organization committed to helping women survivors of war rebuilt their lives. “We found this to be a great match for our camp because many of us on staff have traveled abroad and have seen how fortunate we are in this world.” Women of war torn countries apply and once accepted into the program receive a 12 month education that helps fund a trade or a business so they can break their cycle, become financially independent, take care of their children and rebuild their confidence. “Independence and confidence is our theme here,” Norman says with a smile.
