The Lake Tahoe Concours d’ Elegance Wooden Boat Show
The Lake Tahoe Concours d’ Elegance Wooden Boat Show, founded by members of the Tahoe Yacht Club in 1972 and hosted by the Club’s Foundation since 1994, is regarded nationally as the premier event for maritime enthusiasts. This year’s event is on hold while the event looks for a new location. According to the Tahoe Daily Tribune, “Contractual disagreements are the reason why the 44th annual Lake Tahoe Concours d’Elegance classic wooden boat show will not happen in Carnelian Bay this summer. The Aug. 8-9, 2014, show is on hold while the Tahoe Yacht Club Foundation’s board “works diligently to secure a new location … to ensure the continuation of the Lake Tahoe premier event,” the foundation said in a statement.” Read the full story: Tahoe Concours d’Elegance a no-go for Carnelian Bay this summer.
The Concours d’Elegance is a prestigious boat show and one of the largest in North America. Drawing nearly 100 antique and classic boat entries with upwards of 5,000 spectators in recent years, this event is one of a kind. The boat entries are painstakingly restored to the pristine condition they are in today. And all are attempting to win the top honors including People’s Choice and Most Elegant Boat of Show.
The goal of the Foundation is to maintain the heritage of wooden boating while providing an entertaining and learning experience for all to enjoy. With proceeds from the Concours, the 501(c)(3 ) charitable foundation has awarded more than $250,000 in grants to non-profit organizations in the Tahoe Basin to advance maritime education.
