Tahoe Regions: Truckee Area
  • Truckee, CA

The town of Truckee is the gateway to the lake. With a rich history of saloons, gunslingers and other wild west fantasies, it works hard to keep its local charm while playing host to the thousands of guests who stay in the area each year. With nearby Donner State Memorial Park and a historic downtown shopping area, Truckee can entertain visitors with some time on their hands. In the summer, the town comes out every Thursday in the downtown area to show off area merchants, share stories and hang out as a community.

    Donner Lake, CA

Donner Lake is where you’re likely to get stuck in the winter if you don’t have chains on the tires. The story of the Donner Party holds true, because in the winter of 2010-2011 we had snow packed as high as a two story building down the sides of Interstate 80, over Donner Summit. So if it’s snow you’re after, look no further. But In the summer, Donner Lake is a great spot to beat the heat and the crowds. While we can’t promise warmer water than Lake Tahoe, we can promise amazing view of the surrounding granite walls–perfect for rock climbers, and campers below who need a spot to set up a tent away from the wind, and the crowds.
